November 1st - Middle School Students

#WhyIWrite

The National Day on Writing (October 20th, 2019) was a day for everyone to recognize the value of writing and celebrate their joyous journey as writers. Here at HBRMS, we celebrated #WhyIWrite as a whole school to encourage one another to think about the purposes of writing and to value writing as an important part of life.

There are many reasons and ways to write each and every day; by declaring a celebratory day for writing encouraged everyone to express the multifaceted ways in which writing is an integral part of our lives. We had a great fun enjoying a cake and cookies while thinking and reflecting about who we are as writers – what it truly means to lift our voices to express our beliefs, identities, values, and passions! - Miss Lee, ELA Teacher

I try to create sympathy for my characters, then turn the monsters loose.
– Stephen King, Author

“I write to express what I can’t in say in words. I write to help my feelings be more expressive.

 - B. Hempel 6th grade

“I write because it helps me release my stress and anger. In my opinion my writing is best in text messages.”

 - Anonymous 6th grade

All the reasons our middle-schoolers write

“I write because I love to imagine and see where my imagination takes me. Also writing is how I express my feelings about things.”

 - L. Badal 6th grade

“I write to express my feelings and imagination to the world. When I write I feel as free as a bird gliding across the sky. I write to hear the wonderful sounds of the pencil glide across the paper.

 - An. Herrmann 6th grade

“I write because it helps me tell what I am doing, thinking and feeling, instead of saying them out loud.”

 - N. Wilkening 7th grade

“I write because it is my sanctuary. It allows me to enter my realm, kind which I control. I relax in my realm, messing around with the butterflies of the story, experimenting in my realm, unharmed. I remain there untouched. I write because it gives me my safe haven in which I long for.”

 - E. Rainford 7th grade

“I write because it is a huge passion of mine. Writing, for me, is using a pencil to add all of my ideas on a piece of paper and being proud of it. Writing is showing your creativity and imagination and sharing it with others.”

 - J. Gengler 7th grade

“I write because I would get my energy up for other work. I get my mind ready for school. Writing is good for my education.”

 - J. Campuzano 8th grade

“I write because writing has a deeper meaning. Writing also has many different themes and settings where anything is possible.”

 - M. Yankle Jr. 8th grade
