November 15th - Elementary School Parent

Thank you!

With this month being the time of year we celebrate Thanksgiving, I am so fortunate to share how “ Thankful” I am as a parent of students in the HBR School District and community. My name is Marci Viland and my husband is Nathan Viland. We have twin daughters, Harper and Delani in First grade, and son, Lance in Preschool at Building Blocks Preschool. Being a first time parent to the HBR schools I was nervous about sending my “babies” into a place unknown to me. Nathan is from Hinckley so he knows many of the teachers but I do not being that I am from Aurora. I remember the first day of Preschool saying, “ I don’t know these teachers that I am leaving the girls with, and I just left them there!” Maybe that thought is due to being a police officer’s daughter or me being a crazy mom. Or both! I also remember thinking when the girls went to Kindergarten, “ Someone else is going to be with the girls longer than I usually am during the day now.” Again, all first time mom ideas but still true to probably others as well. Then, it was all well. And this is where the “Thankful” comes in. ..

I am so thankful for the wonderful teachers and staff at the HBR Elementary School. I could not of left my girls in better hands in Kindergarten and now in First Grade. As well as all the teachers and staff they interact with at school each day. It is such a grateful and secure feeling to drop the girls off knowing they are learning, protected, cared for, and of course having fun! The girls love school and that is all due to all of the teachers and staff. What more could a parent ask for from their children’s school. The school goes above and beyond in many ways. From raising money to class parties (thank you district for not getting rid of these!), to Book Fair, to Walk-A-Thon, just to name a few. There are many more that have an impact on the school as well as the kids. Thank you to all those who help make these events possible.

Schools plant the seeds of knowledge and hope that lasts a lifetime. So I am writing this today to let ALL the Principals, Superintendent, Teachers, Secretaries, Custodians, Lunch Ladies, Teacher Assistants, and anyone else I may have left out ( sorry!) , THANK YOU!!! Thank you for providing a wonderful school community to all the people of Hinckley and Big Rock. Thank you for making a difference in all the children in your schools. Thank you for showing up each day and doing what you do. You are making an impact on so many. It takes special people to fill these roles in every school. THANK YOU!

The Viland Family

Happy Thanksgiving!
