Greatness is not an Accident
What makes a high school successful depends upon many factors. While great teaching and a rigorous curriculum immediately come to mind, it is important to remember that certain foundational pieces must be in place so that teachers can teach and students can learn.
A clean, safe school is at the core of student success. Students must feel safe, and deserve a physically clean environment. Our staff goes to great lengths to look at all of the factors that impact safety…it is an ongoing process developing and implementing a safety program that puts students and staff first. On the cleanliness front, a special thanks is owed to Chris Blevins and his staff for the time and energy they put into making the high school a clean and inviting place. Thank you Chris!
Another factor on the success continuum is a healthy climate and culture. While it is not easy to define, we continually seek to create an environment that celebrates students and staff and the contributions they make to making HBRHS THEIR high school. So many events, celebrations, and activities have occurred this year in an effort to help students and staff connect to the school and each other. My personal favorite is “Breakfast with the Principal.”

During this morning event I get the chance to sit down with 5-6 students, over bagels, donuts, and juice, and discuss issues related to their world. It is a great opportunity for me to connect with students in a relaxed, open environment. I am continuously impressed with how caring, mature, and articulate our students are! We have made the creation of a great climate and culture one of our School Improvement Goals. While many would say that HBRHS is already a great place to go to school, we are continuing to look for ways to make it even better.
A special thank you to teachers Alyssa Donlan and Ashlie McCauley for their leadership in this area. And, of course, a large thank you to our students and staff who all contribute to us being the best we can be.
Thank you for reading my post. All the best to you and your family this Holiday Season!
