Welcome to the music corner of Hinckley-Big Rock! We’re excited to celebrate the joy of music with our community. At HBR, we believe that music is a vital part of a well-rounded education. From our youngest learners tapping into their sense of steady beat and melody, to our dedicated vocalists and instrumentalists performing with such pride, music helps students grow into confident, creative, and collaborative individuals. We are excited to share the upcoming events for the rest of the school year with you!
During the month of March, schools across the country will showcase student musicians during Music In Our Schools Month! At HBR, we have a number of events coming up to let our students’ talent shine! The middle school choirs and bands, along with the high school band, will perform in the Hinckley-Big Rock Music Festival on the evening of March 5th. This is an opportunity to hear musicians at every stage of their journey–from those who have been playing their instrument or singing for just a few months to those completing their eighth year of study! The kindergarten, first, and second graders will be presenting “Getting Down With Mama Goose!” on March 10th. This is a collection of songs based on classic nursery rhymes with each song representing a completely different genre of music. Many of the high school band students will have the chance to participate in the Little 10 Band Festival in Serena all day on March 10th. They will join together with instrumentalists from the other Little 10 schools to form a band of over 100 musicians!
The performances don’t stop after Music in our Schools Month! On April 23rd the EC students will sing and dance to a few classroom favorites, and the third and fourth graders will be singing songs from Broadway musicals. The Middle School and High School Jazz Bands will perform a variety of swing, latin, funk, and rock charts at the Jazz Cafe Concert on the evening of April 24th. In May, the bands and choirs will complete the school year with the High School Concert on May 12th and the Middle School Concert on May 19th.
