Hinckley-Big Rock FFA

Hinckley-Big Rock FFA has already had much to celebrate so far this year! This summer, we attended the Illinois State FFA Convention, FFA Section 6 Fair, and helped Kane County Farm Bureau at Kane County Fair. Since the start of school, we have assisted with the petting zoos at both Sandwich Fair and Big Rock Plowing Match, held FFA meetings discussing upcoming opportunities, and traveled to Farm Progress Show through Dekalb County Farm Bureau Acquaintance Day. At the petting zoos, we were tasked with educating the public about the livestock practices and ensuring safe interactions as they engaged with the animals.

Sandwich Fair looked a bit different this year as we were the focus of a very special event in Illinois FFA. Our chapter was joined by all six of the Illinois FFA State Officers to witness the signing of the Hinckley-Big Rock Middle School FFA Charter. This was a wonderful experience for all involved as it truly takes a village to support the FFA Program. The very first Hinckley-Big Rock Middle School Officer team were the first individuals to sign their names on this document, marking a historical moment for agriculture education in Illinois. Afterwards, WSPY interviewed Ms. Zoey Dye, Mrs. Tracey Sanderson, and Mrs. Kim Torman on air for the 12pm coverage of Sandwich Fair. The HBRMS FFA chapter was also interviewed for articles by WSPY and FarmWeek. It has been so exciting to share the accomplishments and future goals for Hinckley-Big Rock FFA with the community.

We have also been involved with giving back to our community. As our apple orchard was ready to harvest, the Horticulture class spent time picking apples and packaging them for the Hinkley Area Food Pantry. Additionally, thank you to the Hinckley-Big Rock School District Administration Team, the Anderson Family, the Baumann Family, Jenny Wold, the Illinois FFA Center staff, and especially our FFA Alumni members for their continued support of our FFA chapter. Upcoming activities students and the community can look forward to are: FFA Float in the Homecoming Parade, Greenhand FFA Conference, Illinois State FFA Officer Visit, Land Use Career Development Event, Middle School FFA Conference, and FFA Meetings.
