FFA at the Middle School

As 8th graders, we're delighted to share our experiences as the first members of our middle school's new FFA program.  We will highlight some of the exciting and innovative activities we've encountered during our introductory year in FFA. One of the first events we did was the FFA Petting Zoo at the Big Rock Plowing Match. During this event, we hung out with the animals while explaining to people why livestock is important and how to properly care for and handle animals. Some of us did the FFA livestock show, including Mark Pritchard, Mollie Ness, Morgan Davis, Kinzie Fatland and Emma Cameron. Morgan, Emma, and Mollie all got to show different animals than they usually do. Mrs. Dye keeps the meetings easy and fun, including game days every other meeting; we also go over upcoming events, as well. Record books are something else some FFA members do. It is a great way to keep track of the time you spend working with your animals or a hobby. One thing we did was Livestock Judging CDE. This is judging livestock against other people and schools. We attend practices for this event as we prepare, eat snacks, laugh, and always have a good time. Banquet is one of the yearly traditions that Hinckley-Big Rock FFA does. This is a way for everyone to get a reward in what they do in FFA overall, whether it’s a CDE, record book,  or they’re in an FFA class. FFA is a great opportunity for HBR students to learn hard work, responsibility, and helping others.
