One of the best things about living in a small town is the way everyone looks out for each other. Sure, it also means everyone knows everyone (which has its pros and cons!), but at its heart, it creates a sense of belonging. Whether it’s a lost pet post that quickly leads to a reunion or the outpouring of support for a neighbor in need, small towns thrive on connection.  

When we revisited our district’s vision and mission last year, one thing was clear—community is at the core of everything we do. At Hinckley-Big Rock, our community is more than just a shared location; it’s a network of families, educators, local businesses, and organizations working together to support student success. It’s in the way we cheer from the sidelines, lend a hand when it’s needed, and create opportunities for growth. True community is built on relationships, generosity, and a shared commitment to a brighter future.  

One example of this commitment is #429Cares—a fund dedicated to ensuring that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of student participation. Whether it’s helping with field trip costs, sports fees, club memberships, or even Prom expenses, #429Cares makes sure every student has the chance to experience all that school has to offer. Cultivating community means creating an environment where every child is seen, supported, and encouraged to grow. It’s in the way we rally behind our teams, step up for one another, volunteer our time, and invest in the future of our students. We are incredibly grateful to every family, business, and community member who helps make HBR a place where students can thrive.
