This year has been an exciting one for us as fifth-grade teachers! For the first time, we made the leap to middle school alongside our students, and what a journey it has been. It’s been a joy to watch our students grow, thrive, and embrace the incredible opportunities that come with middle school life.
One of the biggest highlights for us has been seeing our students light up as they dive into new activities and opportunities. Intramurals have brought out their competitive spirits, teaching them teamwork and resilience. Podcasting has been a blast, giving students the chance to share their voices and creativity. Various clubs have given them a creative outlet and connections to new peers.
Some of our students have discovered a love for the arts through band. Others have found a new hobby in the crochet club, weaving their own unique creations. We’ve also loved watching them rotate through their exploratory classes, trying everything from technology, STEAM, art, and music, all exploring interests they didn’t even know they had!
The biggest change for all of us has been navigating the middle school schedule (and lockers!), with students moving between classes and meeting new teachers. Watching our students gain confidence as they navigate their schedules and take ownership of their learning has been a rewarding experience.
Middle school has opened doors to so many new opportunities for our students—and for us as teachers, too. While the transition from elementary school was a big change, it’s been a fun, fulfilling adventure. We’re grateful to be part of this exciting chapter in our students’ lives, and we can’t wait to see how much more they’ll grow this year.
Here’s to many more middle school memories ahead!
-The Fifth-Grade Team
Hear what the 5th graders have to say about the move!
Eli H.: I like being in the middle school because we don't have to ride a bus to get to sixth grade math and because we have podcasting and because we get taught by multiple different teachers.
Lucas N.: I love middle school because I have a lot more freedom than in elementary school.
Audra R: I love being at the middle school because you get to do intramurals. I also love how we get to switch classes a little. And the teachers are all so nice and kind.
Char M. : I like the move to middle school because there are intramurals. Also crochet club it is fun to have all the clubs, and student council. Something that is not so fun is the bus here.
RJ: I was surprised at first because I wasn't expecting it but after a while I got used to it and I've been feeling very good ever since. Sure it may be hard doing a lot of things but you get used to it after a while, and besides it is very fun! I get to be an actor, singer, and musician!
Luke K: We get to eat outside now and it is really fun because you can have a lot of recess time if you want to play instead of eat lunch. You also get to have exploratories and they are really fun.
Michael: Something I like is that the food is better and there are more opportunities for learning things you want to learn. But I don't like is that P.E gives assignments for sports it is supposed to make you more fit, not learning.
Rose: I think fifth grade is going good. I am glad I moved to middle school. I think middle school is a great new experience. It is definitely a thing I love about our school, I am not trying to be rude but I like the middle school way better.
Ale: some things i like about fifth grade is new friends and better food soccer and pe every day
