New Drama Program At HBR High School

We are so thrilled to be producing a play this fall at HBR high school. Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. I’m Therese Magden, a new high school staff member. I have been an English and drama teacher for many years, and I am grateful to have been given a chance to work with such an amazing staff. Over the course of these first few weeks, I have come to recognize the high caliber of staff members here at HBR. The positive energy here is genuinely contagious. I currently live in Waterman and have two college aged sons who keep me very busy. My partner in the Fine Arts Department is Jeri-Ann Day; she recently graduated from Elmhurst University last fall and is now a first-year teacher. Jeri-Ann has been acting and singing in musicals and plays both in and out of school for most of her life, and she's thrilled to be on the other side of things, helping direct the show.

Although Ms. Day and I are both new to HBR, we come with many years of performance and directing experience. As this year's play directors, we hope to involve as many students as possible and create a production that spotlights the talents of our cast members.

This year’s cast of Alice in Wonderland will star more than 35 middle school and high school students. It’s amazing to see so many young people enthusiastic and excited about performing and taking part in our new drama program. Our cast will be performing for our elementary students on November 12 & 13, and our public performances are November 14 & 16 here at HBR High School at 7 PM. We would like to encourage everyone to come out, see a great show, and support our drama program.

If you would like to help make our fall play a success, you can come to our aid. We are currently in dire need of several seamstresses who can sew costumes and make alterations. If you believe you may be able to donate a little of your time, please reach out and email Therese Magden at tmagden@hbr429.org. In addition, we are in the process of gathering props for the play. If you are able to lend us any props, please drop them off at the high school office. Be sure to include your name and phone number so that we can return your loaned item after the play. Here is a list of needed props: Props needed. Lastly, The drama club will be posting its Fall Play T-shirt on PushCoin. Proceeds from the sales of t-shirts will go to fund set design and costumes. Buying a t-shirt is also a great way to show your support.

Thanks so much for all the support and encouragement we have already received from so many generous community members.
