December 10th - HBRMS Students

Cheer and boys basketball seasons coming to an end

I want to start off by saying thank you to all those involved in making this season a success for our boys and girls.  The coaches for putting in the time with our students both before and after school. Marikay Slosar and Dan Flannery for making a bus available.  Our PTO parents for running our concession stand and only setting off the fire alarm once this year with the popcorn machine.  And finally our parents who got the students to practice supported the teams at home and away games and also helped with transportation so we could get to those games.  Overall it shows with effort and cooperation a season can be pulled off under difficult situations. Good Luck to our 8th grade team at next week's Jr. 10 tournament in Paw Paw Go Royals!

After almost 2 years off from competitive basketball the boys started their basketball season back in October. The 6/7th grade team had 16  boys go out for the team. The 8th grade team had 12 go out this year. The boys were very excited to get back to competitive basketball and play for HBRMS. After shaking off some rust both teams had an outstanding season. Both teams showed great improvement throughout the season and persevered through many challenges, whether it be canceled games or players missing extended time. Both teams finished the regular season 13-3. The 13-3  for the 6/7th grade team gave the team a second place finish in the conference. For the 8th grade team the 13-3 record gave them second place in the conference and a number two seed for the upcoming conference tournament next week.

This year the middle school also welcomed back cheer after a couple of years off.  We had our largest squad ever with over 40 girls participating.  The girls worked very hard to put together halftime, timeout and cheer routines.  Many of the practices were outside in the morning or in the gym, library, hallway.  They didn’t care and were just happy to be a part of something. Thanks goes out to Mrs. Michalski, our first year coach.

The basketball players and cheerleaders showed great determination, effort and excitement this season. It's great to watch our HBR students getting the opportunity to enjoy basketball as a player, cheerleader or fan. Thanks.

Coach Michalski
