Making the absolute best of it
My name is Kayleigh McReynolds and I am a junior at Hinckley-Big Rock High School. Over the past three years I have been involved in a lot of extra curricular activities such as library club, charity club, board game club, student council since freshman year, prom committee, art club, FEA, Spanish club, leadership retreat, volleyball, basketball, and track. As you can see, I have been very busy throughout my high school career.
But, this school year has been like no other. There are a lot of precautions our school has taken to ensure everyone’s safety such as social distancing, mandatory masks, constant disinfecting, etc. As for the students, we are trying our best to keep everyone engaged. Art club has started painting a few murals in the history and science wing. The history wing has a beautiful map of the United States while the science wing has an intricate tree of life with all sorts of different species. These murals have taken a lot of time and effort by everyone involved, but definitely worth it if it means that we get to bring some color inside HBR’s walls.
Student council was still trying to make the best of homecoming week at the beginning of this year by letting HBR hit the Road. We got many businesses in our community to be involved in this. This was a great way to keep students at a distance but also getting students to have fun and be involved with the community. Every few days there would be a sponsored business that people could go to then they would take a picture of the receipt and upload the picture to Google Classroom. That class would then earn points and the class at the end with the most points wins! It was definitely fun to go out and compete from a distance.
Overall, this school year has been crazy, but we are all trying to make the absolute best of it.
