The 2025-2026 year has been a fantastic year for the Hinckley-Big Rock High School chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). We entered the year with 14 members, and inducted 8 new members in early November. We have been involved in many different events throughout the year. We sold ice cream floats at the Taste of HBR, and ran a Plinko game during the Carnival. We hosted 4 blood drives that included 75-80 donations and 225-240 lives saved. We hosted a Halloween Night event where kids from the community could trick or treat and participate in fun activities at the high school. We won the HBR club/activity/sport Christmas Tree Decorating contest. We put together a teacher appreciation breakfast after Winter Break to celebrate the HBR staff for all of the hard work that they put in for our students every day. We hosted a Parent Date Night event around Valentine’s Day where kids could have a night of fun while their parents get some much needed time to themselves. We put together a new Trivia and Bingo night this Spring, where parents and kids from the community could engage in some friendly competition in the form of bingo and jeopardy-style trivia to win some prizes. On top of all of this, we participated in a plethora of community service opportunities to support our community members when they reached out needing help with a particular event or task.
Our final big NHS event this year is Honors Night, which will be taking place next Wednesday, May 6th from 6-8 PM. We use this night to recognize all students who have made the honor roll, high honor roll, are in the top 5 in their class, and to recognize the seniors for specific awards (scholarships, department awards, etc.). All students who are getting recognized in some capacity, along with their parents, should have received emails throughout the Spring semester that invited them to RSVP for the event. If you have not yet RSVP’d but plan to attend, please fill out the form as soon as possible so we have an accurate count of attendees. We are so excited to come together to honor all of the exciting accomplishments of our students!
16 of our 22 current NHS members will be graduating this May. I will be inviting eligible students (Incoming Juniors and Seniors with a 3.3 GPA or higher) to apply to NHS this Summer, and we will likely induct our new students in early November. We are looking forward to another great year for the HBR chapter of the National Honor Society!
