Each year, World Mental Health Day is on October 10th. This is a day dedicated to raising awareness around mental health and promoting efforts to support mentally healthy habits. Mentally healthy habits include: Sleep and Rest, Food and Eating Habits, Relationships and Emotions, Exercise and Mindfulness, & Creativity and Pleasure.
HBR 429 recognizes the important role the school and the community play in cultivating the emotional wellness and mental health of students. The Social Emotional Learning Team brought mentally healthy activities to each school across the district.
Students across all grade levels practiced mentally healthy habits through a variety of fun and relaxing activities. High School and Middle School students enjoyed options to watch a comedy video, play sports in the gym, practice yoga, chalk the sidewalk with kind or empowering messages, or play board games. Elementary School students also joined in the wellness fun by practicing yoga and meditation, creating a kindness paper chain, chalking the sidewalk with uplifting words and pictures, climbing the new rock wall, having a dance party, and blowing bubbles.
