My name is Nicky Abbs, and I am the school counselor and National Honor Society (NHS) sponsor at Hinckley-Big Rock High School. Each year, HBR and our NHS chapter partner with Versiti, a regional, non-profit blood health organization, to put on four blood drives in the high school gym. Each blood donation is critical, and helps to save 3 lives. Within the past couple of years, we have seen an astounding amount of donations, including 81 donated units during the 24-25 school year, and 102 donated units during the 25-26 school year, which is a school record. I am so proud of our students and our community members for stepping up and making a difference in the lives of many. It is my hope that the selfless nature of our donors is contagious and creates an even stronger desire in the school and community to give without any expectation of receiving something in return.
For the 2025-2026 school year, our four blood drives will take place on September 12th, December 5th, February 13th, and April 24th. These drives take place from 9 AM- 2PM in the large gym at the high school. We have lofty goals for this year, and are hoping to eclipse our record from last year to help save more lives than ever. Please consider signing up for the first Blood Drive (September 12th) via the following link, or email me at nabbs@hbr429.org, and I can help get you set up. Please keep in mind, there are height-weight limits for donors under the age of 19 years old:
