Celebrating Carolynn: A Shining Star at HBR and Beyond

At school, we often recognize students for their achievements, their perseverance, and their kindness. This week, we want to shine the spotlight on a very special 4th grader, Carolynn. While her younger brother, Marshall, has been receiving well-deserved attention for his incredible journey—having just received a new heart two weeks ago—we believe Carolynn deserves to be celebrated, too.

Carolynn is the definition of strength and grace. She is not only a dedicated student who loves coming to school, but she is also a talented dancer with a passion for jazz and tap. Recently, her hard work and dedication paid off when she earned 1st place at her dance competition! It was a moment of well-earned joy, a testament to her resilience and love for the art.

Beyond the stage, Carolynn finds solace in drawing and reading—two activities that help her decompress from the overwhelming worries that come with having a sibling in the hospital. With Marshall spending the last 10 months away from home, only able to see him on weekends, Carolynn has carried a lot in her heart. Yet, she continues to show up every day with a bright smile, eager to learn, create, and grow. One of the things she loves most about school right now is having art as part of her week—a time when she can let her creativity flow and express all the emotions that words sometimes cannot capture. She also loves the chance to receive bear hugs from her teacher, Miss Frantzen, who supports and encourages Carolynn while she has been on this long journey.

Now, as Marshall recovers and prepares to come home, Carolynn is looking forward to something she has waited nearly a year for—having her brother back under the same roof. Their reunion will be a moment filled with love, relief, and the promise of a new chapter together.

Carolynn, we see you. We celebrate you. Your strength, kindness, and passion inspire us all. Keep dancing, keep drawing, and keep being the amazing person you are. The world is lucky to have you in it.
