A goal at HBRMS this year is to provide a variety of extracurricular opportunities for our students to enjoy. We are thankful for the staff and student involvement to make these new clubs and activities possible! Below are a few opportunities we are offering this year:
Extracurricular Opportunities | |
Intramurals | Fifth and sixth grade intramural provides an opportunity for students to participate in various sports and activities in a fun, low-pressure environment. Intramurals emphasize teamwork, skill development, participation and sportsmanship. The goal is to encourage fundamental skill building in various sports and help to build confidence and friendships that will create great teammates on future teams! |
Band, Music and Choir | Middle school students have the opportunity to play an instrument in band and jazz band, sing in the choir, and take general music where they may play ukulele, learn about world drumming, or study music composition. |
Yearbook | The Yearbook Club is a creative team dedicated to capturing and celebrating our school's memorable moments throughout the year! We work together to design, write, and organize the yearbook, showcasing everything from sports events to special activities and everyday life at school. Experienced members also mentor new members, helping them develop skills in photography, graphic design, and storytelling. We create a treasured yearbook while building lasting friendships and supporting each other along the way! |
Chess Club | Chess club is offered to middle school students every Thursday after school. We have a large group that meets and students are at varying levels of experience playing chess. It’s been a popular addition to our extra curricular opportunities in the last couple of years! |
Podcasting | We have 21 middle schoolers participating in the district's first podcasting program. Students are learning communication skills such as interviewing and storytelling. Once their script is complete they move on to the fun technical part of podcasting by recording and editing their audio. What an engaging way to develop both hard and soft skills! |
Tech Club | Students help create video announcements that are broadcasted about once a week. Students also help with the hallway slide show. This provides students the opportunity to “be on TV” and be like a news reporter. |
Drama Club | Drama club is new for our students this year and interested students have been going to the high school after school to practice for the upcoming fall play, Alice in Wonderland. Students have a variety of roles including acting and tech crew. |
Student Council | The student council is the voice of the student body. Students interested in joining must complete an application and run in an election. This position requires a student with strong leadership skills and the ability to represent one’s school in a positive manner. Student council members organize school activities, promote school spirit, and carry out community service projects. Last year the student council worked with the Hinckley Area Food Pantry, the Ronald McDonald House, and Tails Humane Society. |
Crochet Club | Crochet club is a student-run club that started last year. Students teach others how to crochet and they work on projects in small groups together. It’s been a popular addition to the activities offered to our students! |
FFA | Our middle school has a newly founded FFA chapter that has provided our students so many opportunities. Students have been able to enjoy agriculture centered courses, but also choose to join FFA and compete at varying competitions in our area. Our FFA works closely with the high school’s chapter and will provide a smooth transition from middle to high school. |
