As I near the end of my senior year at Hinckley Big Rock High School (HBR), I can’t help but reflect on how much this school has shaped me into the person I am today. The experiences I’ve had here, both in and out of the classroom, have left a lasting impact on my character, my relationships, and my outlook on life.
One of the most significant changes I’ve noticed in myself is how much more outgoing I’ve become. When I first walked through the doors as a freshman, I was more reserved, sticking to my comfort zone. But HBR has a way of encouraging students to step up and get involved. Whether it was participating in class discussions, joining clubs, or just connecting with people I didn’t know well, this school gave me the confidence to put myself out there. Being around such a supportive and tight-knit community made it easier to take those steps. Over the years, I’ve realized that those small interactions helped me form stronger friendships and relationships with my classmates, teachers, and coaches.
Sports have also played a major role in my high school journey. At HBR, athletics are more than just games or competitions. They’re a way of life. From the practices to the big games, being part of a team has taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. The bonds I’ve formed with my teammates are incredible, and the sense of camaraderie is something I’ll always cherish. Winning a game is great, but the lessons I’ve learned on and off the field are what truly matter. Sports have pushed me to work harder, and the friendships I’ve gained through athletics are some of the strongest I have. Not just at HBR but also at other schools.
Being at HBR has not only shaped me academically but it’s also helped me grow as a person. The teachers here genuinely care about us as individuals. They push us to do our best, but they’re also there to support us when we need it. This sense of community has been a huge factor in my personal growth. I’ve learned to be more empathetic, to listen, and to appreciate different perspectives.
As I get ready to leave HBR and move on to the next chapter of my life, I know that the friendships I’ve made and the lessons I’ve learned here will stay with me forever. I’ll always be proud to say I’m a graduate of Hinckley Big Rock High School, a place that has shaped me into the person I am today.
