HBRMS students and staff put Padlet to work
What is Padlet?
Padlet provides an online digital "bulletin board" style forum where students are able to post short responses to a variety of prompts: quick-write questions, journal starters, constructed responses to a text question, or even brainstorming questions. Students may post individually, in pairs, or as teams allowing teachers to involve students both in-person and remote.
Check out this week’s blog from Miss Lee’s 6th graders! The pre-writing Padlet activity below was collaboratively created and published after 6th graders read Jackie Robinson’s Justice At Last? They are comparing and contrasting Helen Keller’s text with Jackie Robinson’s biographical essay as part of a literary analysis. This Padlet is an awesome indication of my students’ ability to think critically and connect with the author’s purpose at an inferential level.
Emma Sanchez On page 423 the text said, "No matter what was said to him, he must never answer back. If he had even one fight, people might say integration wouldn't work.", This statement really shows how much dignity he had. He wanted to create a better life for all kind. He had to move on, even with all those harsh words pushing him down. He never let that show. He made sure to not make any actions that could possibly destroy what he had been working on, he was creating history for the people that needed it the most. He was making sure that everyone could live their own lives without any harsh movements that could ruin all the great history that was made.
Katarina Gengler On page 423, the text says, "But as they talked, he realized that in this case a truly brave man would have to avoid fighting." This shows how Jackie Robinson wasn't afraid to be judged and fought with. He was ready to block out all of the negatives and play baseball. Also, on page 423, it says," The grandson of a slave, he was proud of his race and wanted others to feel the same." This shows that he was proud of himself and was going to try to tell others that he is.
