October 23rd - Middle School Staff

 HBRMS Welcomes Ms. Emily Cook

My name is Emily Cook and I am the new HBRMS special education teacher. I graduated from Benedictine University in 2018, where I was also a part of the soccer team. Prior to joining the HBR family I worked for two years as the elementary special education teacher in Paw Paw. I live in Sycamore with my girlfriend and our cat, Mazey. My hobbies include reading, hiking, and swimming.

To say I am excited for the 2020-2021 school year would be an understatement! It is great to be back in the classroom for in-person learning. The students have been doing an AMAZING job of following the plethora of new rules and safety procedures. Although this year looks different than any in the past, you can still feel the excitement in the air, even as we near the end of the first quarter.

The staff of HBRMS has been incredibly welcoming and helpful. There really is a family atmosphere in the building. Every teacher genuinely cares about the social-emotional and academic success of all the students. I can’t wait to continue my career in such an amazing school and district. I look forward to a fantastic year of learning and growing!

Sincerely,

Emily Cook

What the rest of the building has to say about Ms. Cook

I cannot say enough about Ms. Cook since the day I met her this summer when she came in and began transitioning into her position she has been student focused, focused on building relationships and helping others.  I came across this quote. I know it dates me a bit but fits for the current circumstances. But she is a helper everyday.  Jeff Strouss - Principal

Students thoughts about Ms. Cook

Judah M.- She’s helpful when you need it, but she also makes you do the work- not just have her do it for you.

Joe G.- She’s nice. It feels like she’s been teaching here for awhile; she fits right in.

Cameron M.- She’s nice. She helps out with a lot of math problems with Mr. Edwards.  She’s funny.

Isabella C.- She’s really helpful and when we need extra help, she will come over and work with you separately.

Sawyer S.- She’s always happy and she’s willing to work with everybody.
